This page contains information that should help you in accessing and completing Early years child development training.

Create and manage your account

To access Early years child development training you will need a GOV.UK One Login account.

If you previously signed up to Early years child development training without a GOV.UK One Login account you will now need to create one. To do so, you must use the same email address.

Create your GOV.UK One Login account

To create an account:

  1. Go to Create your GOV.UK One Login.
  2. Click ‘Create your GOV.UK One Login’ and follow the instructions.

Forgotten your GOV.UK One Login password

When signing into GOV.UK One Login: 1. Enter the email address linked to your GOV.UK One Login account. 2. Click continue and then select ‘I’ve forgotten my password’ link.

Change your GOV.UK One Login password

To change your password, sign in to GOV.UK One Login and go to the ‘Security’ page.

Cannot remember the email used to sign into your early years training course

Once you have signed in with your GOV.UK One Login account:

  1. Select the sign in button on the home page.
  2. Click the link ‘Problems signing in’.
  3. Select the second option ‘Didn’t receive confirmation instructions?’.
  4. Enter your email and select ‘Send email’ green button.
  5. Click the link in the email and follow the instructions.

Account setting details not recognised

When registering for an account, and your account setting are not recognised, follow the details below: - Where it states, ‘What setting type do you work in’, choose the link ‘I cannot find my setting or organisation’ – this provides a free-text box to type in. - What local authority do you work in? Complete this if relevant, however if not relevant then bypass, to do so choose ‘Work across more than 1’. - Which of the following best describes your role? Select the link ‘I would describe my role in another way’ – this provides a free-text box to type in.

Update your GOV.UK One Login email to match your existing early years child development login

You should change your GOV.UK One Login email address to match your existing Early years child development account email address. To do this, sign in to GOV.UK One Login and go to the ‘Security’ page.

How to login in with One Login

Click on ‘Sign in’ at the top the Early years child development training page, or ‘Start your training now’ at the bottom of the page. Then click the ‘Continue to GOV.UK One Login’ box. This will take you to the GOV.UK One Login page where you can either sign in with your existing account, or create a GOV.UK One Login account if you don’t already have one. If you are creating an account, and you have previously signed up to Early years child development training, be sure to use the same email address you originally signed up with.

Stop receiving email updates

To stop receiving email notifications: 1. Go to the ‘My account’ page. 2. In the ‘Your email preferences’ section, click ‘Change email preferences’ and update your settings.

Close your early years child development account

If you close your account you will no longer be able to access the training modules and any certificates you have earned will be permanently deleted. To close your account:

  1. Go to the ‘My account’ page.
  2. In the ‘Closing your account’ section click ‘ask us to close your account’ and follow the instructions.

Course information

Early years child development training is free. The course is designed primarily for childminders and nurseries but is available to anyone that is currently working or interested in the Early Years sector. Whilst it is useful for those that are new to childcare, it can also be a refresher and provide value to longer serving and experienced practitioners. The course has 8 modules, each module will typically take between 1 and 2 hours to complete. You can pause and re-start the training as much as you like, there is no time limit to completing the training.

Complete your training

You can complete the Early years child development training in any order. However, to support your understanding of the training, you may find it helpful to complete the modules in order. To start your training, visit the ‘My modules’ page and then select the module you wish to start. You will then be presented with an overview of the selected module. Click the ‘Start module’ button at the bottom of the page to start your training.

Course certificates and qualification

You get a certificate for each module you complete. These can be found on the ‘My modules’ page where you can also download and print them.

There is no formal qualification award for completing this course.

Training formats

Early years child development training is offered as an on-line course. We do not offer any off-line course options. We are also unable to provide printed copies of certificates earned from completing the training.
